Technical Info

Unlike other products, Sunclipies clip-on sunglasses basically just change the color of the lenses - through the innovative system there are no ugly bridges or clamps in the nose region, so the style of your eyeglasses stays the same. The thin lenses are mounted from inside the eyeglasses.

And they do not scratch your eyeglass or frame. They are a perfect fit for all rimless glasses too.

Unlike other sun clipons they are not just roughly tailored, but specifically exactly tailored and custommade for each single pair of eyeglasses in the world.

  • The lenses are made from robust, soft, bendable thin film. The material is Polycarbonate (PC), which is used as lens material in most eyeglasses nowadays. They offer full UV protection (UVA and UVB, UV380).

  • Sunclipies are mounted inside the eyeglasses - thus preserving the eyeglasses design and basically just changing the color of the lenses. Being closer to the eye also leads to better light- and UV-protection.

  • The weight is near 0: a pair of Sunclipies weighs less than 1 gram.

  • The price is so attractive, you can easily afford several pairs and store them where you need them most: in a car for example.

  • They are just 0.5mm thick: so you can easily store them in your eyeglass case or pouch or pocket of your shirt.

  • To be able to produce Sunclipies for your eyeglasses we just need you to take a foto and make a measurement of the height of the frame. Sunclipies are exactly tailored and custom-made for all eyeglasses worldwide.

Sometimes we are asked, whether the vision through the bendable lenses is really clear: it is indeed perfectly clear, like through conventional sunglasses: "... Also pleasantly suprised by the clarity of vision. Very relaxing on the eyes! Many thanks." (Paul, from Gloucester, UK, May 7th 2009).

Polarization: has nothing to do with UV-protection. Polarization is a means to reduce extreme glare, like caused by the sun on water. The lenses are not especially polarized, but they really "cut the glare", as you can see in the foto here (by the way, real polarization has its disadvantages, e.g. it is more difficult to see instruments, like in a car. And you might overlook glaring patches of ice or water.):

You can see the UV test report of our sun clip-ons here, which says:

- Luminous transmittance: 24.07% = Filter Category 1, General purpose Shield, medium to dark
- UVB transmittance of 0.0%, UVA:  1.02%, meaning "UV380"
(But most eyeglasses nowadays have built-in UV-protection anyway).
